What do you think of Barack "Hussein" Obama?

Oh, they've come out swinging now: for the second time at a GOP rally, one of the introductory speakers referred to Obama as "Barack Hussein Obama". Now, if all they meant was to introduce the man by his full name, this would be fine, but it's so disgustingly obvious what the "Hussein" is supposed to do here... Make us sick and scared of Obama, of his otherness, of his blackness, of his father's Muslim heritage.
Yes, of course, now that I'm reminded that his middle name is Hussein, I'm certain he eats babies for dinner and hunts small kittens for sport...
Please! and the sad thing is, for some people, this works. Now, I'm not a McCain fan. I'm not a conservative fan in general, but I'd NEVER NEVER call out "Kill him" at a rally. It's dangerous. It's despicable and it's prejudice no matter how you spin it.
Thankfully, not everyone seems to be falling for it. Some Obama supporters are adopting Hussein as their middle-names to show support.

The amount of Muslim hatred being whipped up by the McCain campaign is truly foul and distasteful. I can only hope that it (along with the rest of his slimy politics) backfires in a spectacular way. And I cannot believe that the McCain campaign is tolerating shouts of "terrorist" and "kill him" at their rallies. Disgusting.

It really, really is... so far, it's backfiring as seen by the polls, but I fear that eventually, if they repeat enough lies enough times, people start believing them to be true.

What the Republicans are doing will have ramifications that go beyond this election, which I still think Obama will win. But, if and when he does, how good will it be for the country if a significant minority of Americans believes this:

If McCain doesn't know what he's doing here, that's scary. If he does, that's even worse.

It's beyond disgusting. My younger son said they had a debate about the presidential candidates (here in our Bible belt public school system) and one of the pro-McCain kids said Obama is Muslim. My son said, "No he isn't, but even if he was, what difference would it make?" I was so proud.

Yup, there are some crazy whackos out there all right and unfortunately they have a big loud voice. Hopefully no one is listening

K,I haven't had a chance to check the link, but I assume it's every vicious rumour they've directed at him?
COTW, you must be soooooooooo proud of your son. The "so what if he was Muslim" is the part getting lost in all of this... I'm Muslim, and I don't think that makes me any less Canadian than any of my Canadian friends who aren't Muslim. I know TONS of American Muslims who are extremely proud to be American and patriotic to their country. I just think that in 40 years, win or lose, historians will look back at this campaign and shake their head in disbelief that something like this was even debated.
XUP, I hope you're right, but I think there are, unfortunately, a large number who ARE listening, or who really believe this stuff matters. Enough to sway the vote? I hope not, and I really don't think so, but when even 20% of a country's population thinks this is a legit debate, that's WAY too high a number.
